What about the other seven editors?

Don't worry, I won't leave you hanging. The other editors were good editors, however they lacked in some areas that the three chosen editors did not lack in. The reason the seven editors were not reviewed in depth is because though they were good, they were out classed by the chosen three...oohhh, that sounds mystically cool.
Anyway, this webpage will describe each editor in a very general sense, and describe some reasons of why they were not chosen.

Script Worx 5

Script worx(SW) was not included because of the lack of features, in fact this editor proved to be among the greatest reviewed. However, this editor also came with a price. There is no freeware version, as such it could not be included in the review of free HTML editors.
Take note that I did not pay for my copy of this HTML editor, I got it during the beta testing process. So bugs and problems are to be expected.

SW has an incredible set of primary and secondary functions. Also, SW had some pretty cool Xtras/unique features. The downfall with this program is much like that of 1st Page 2000. SW is a very bulky program having much to offer. The load up time for this editor is pretty slow, also about a minute. The silver lining in this dark cloud is readily seen, once loaded the overall program speed is good. As for bugs and annoyances, this program did have its share. Program Help and support are good, bugs were common, and many times functions just wouldn't work, but remember I am using a beta version. This program also did not have an internal browser or FTP support.

The GUI interface is very pleasing to the eye, easy to use and supports multiple document editing. Last but not least, there were no hints popping up on mousover of buttons, nor was there text in the status bar.

All in all, SW is a great program, for all the bad I've described above there are a great deal more good I've yet to write about. If you want to purchase this program I'm sure that they have a trial version that will give you an idea of what you will be getting. Have fun.

Matrix Y2K

Matrix Y2K(M2K) is another great HTML editor. Unfortunately this one was outclassed by the chosen three. M2K was the first program I reviewed before choosing on which editors were the best of the best. M2K boasts an incredible array of tools for such a small program. I was astonished at the speed that M2K loaded up with, it happened in seconds, about 3 to approximate. M2K has a great help file, the creators really poured everything they had into creating an excellent editor with no problems or hassles.

This editor is fantastic for a beginner or intermediate web designer. Offering all the necessities and many extra features that aid the user in learning and advancing in HTML.

As for bugs and annoyances, No bugs were encountered. Where HTML-Kit and 1st Page 2000 crashed when Winamp was running, M2K kept chugging along like a trooper.
The GUI interface is very nice, not flashy or distracting but simple and to the point. It is in no way cluttered, and is very easy to use.

All in all, M2K is a great little program, great for beginners and intermediate users. Csteps recommends this program as a fantastic non-bulky editor to get away from the cluttered, bulky and confusing Multi-purpose Editors.

Easy HTML 2.2

If there was ever a program Csteps would never recommend, it would have to be Easy HTML(EH). Why? Well to start off, let me tell you about how this this editor could have been another great editor.

This program is another HTML only editor, like M2K it would be fantastic for beginners. EH is basic but very powerful when it does what it does best..HTML.
EH has all the functions needed and more, templates, a fantastic table maker, great over all speed and load up speed, easy to use GUI interface and pleasing to the eye, a unique preview window called Eskimo and much much more.

However, EH proved to be about as stable as a stomach after eating refried beans. EH did not give me the opportunity to properly review it, every single time I was able to load it up, seconds later EH managed to crash. And these were not simple windows crashes, these crashes revealed hundreds of error windows...really aggravating ..oy vay!

Csteps does not recommend this editor, it was chosen from the many found with the expectations that it would at least run. The features described were found to be great, but the actual program itself has been found lacking.

Coffee Cup 6

Newer versions of coffee cup(CC) offer so much more than this freeware version. Its almost not worth reviewing this editor, but seeing as how so many people have heard about coffee cup I thought it would be helpful to mention that there is a free version, and to review it.

CC is by far the simplest editor I've ever seen. It was so simple that funny enough I was confused about how to use it for the longest time. Now, I'm not slow, well not by much anyway, but CC really had me frustrated. CC works like this, I has a very limited amount of functions, very limited.
These functions are basically your images, paragraphs, forms, lists, and headers. There may be more but not worth mentioning. You then choose one of about 50 premade templates, and although these templates are nice enough they still don't make up for the pathetic amount of functions provided.

CC's load times were great, about 8 seconds in total. But again, a big BUTT, CC really messes you up by only being able to open CC type files, also there are no program options to choose from or alter. The GUI is designed very poorly, and it does take some getting used to.

All in all, Csteps only recommends this editor, if it can be called that, for beginners who only have an interest in designing a personal webpage, nothing to overwhelming in design, functionality and beauty.

Deppo soft(DS)

This editor is not a great program, but it is a good program. The creator is no longer updating it, and the website is no longer available, but the program itself can be downloaded from www.tucows.com.
Deppo Soft (DS) is a very small program, basically a skeleton program for HTML,Javascript, and Visual Basic. DS is good for advanced web designers who like to use windows ASCII program 'notepad' because of the speed and simplicity but could do with a little more.

DS has a complete list of HTML tags, attributes, event handlers and special characters, making DS a strong contender in the light weight class. DS also has a few great features, from creating forms to meta-tags to inserting images and inserting custom scripts.

Though DS is compact, fast and easy to use DS still has a few annoyances and bugs. DS cannot open a file greater than or equal to 200Kb, maybe less but I didn't explore further. It has no internal browser, and the amount of undo/redo is limited to a measly one(1). For me that really takes away alot from the potential of any program. DS is very plain, and limited to what it can do in the sense of features and functions. But just like Notepad, DS can do everything and anything that the web designer typing the code in can do.

Csteps recommends DS for web designers who want a small program, not littered with hundreds of functions and features designed to help beginners or add extra unwanted code into the document source.
DS has alot to offer to one interested only in HTML.

W3E 2000

W3e is a great program, not only does it support HTML, but it also supports Javascript and Java. It has a toolbar for Java coding, compiling and so on. W3e is excellent for designing webpages. It has a full set of tools for creating tables, frames, forms, lists, adding multi-media and much more. The loading time and overall program speed are excellent, from start to finish.

The only areas where W3e needs improving is the undo/redo amount and the help file. It seems that you can only undo or redo one time. Again, this really disappoints me. Any program that allows for only one undo or redo of mistakes or what not, really needs to be updated to allow for a greater amount of undo/redo commands. The help file is poor by Csteps standards, not to mention weird, don't ask me to explain.

All in all, W3e really proved to be worth it's weight in silver. It delivers powerful HTML development tools. It is small in size, and pleasing to the eye. It couldn't be any easier to use or understand in a matter of minutes. W3e is recommended for intermediate to advanced web designers who know what they are doing. A beginner would feel lost and indeed be lost if they tried to use this program without prior knowledge of HTML.

Site-Aid

I don't have much to say about site aid, I am now starting to lose interest in HTML editors. Other than that I was impressed with its' numerous qualities. It had a very easy to use GUI interface, not cluttered and pleasing to the eye. It even had a CSS editor that would give you a list of CSS elements and help you create styles. Site aid's load up time was fairly good, it would load in about 10 seconds, and the overall program speed was great. A few excellent features were like that of HTML-Kit, Site-Aid like HTML-Kit also had a built in FTP manager. Site-Aid also had toolbars for text formatting, table and forms formatting, list formatting and a few others. A few problems encountered with Site-Aid were that the table maker was very poor, only supporting a maximum of 3 columns, no web designer could forgive that. As well the indentation button was not working and some shortcut keys were not responding.

Site Aid is a good beginners and intermediate program. Although Csteps has stated that Site-Aid is freeware, we are no longer so sure. This is because site-aid seems to be counting down like an evaluation version might do. The site-aid website claims that Site-Aid is freeware, but I am not so sure, I guess I'll have to wait until the count-down reaches zero.

Csteps recommends this editor for beginners and intermediate web designers. The great GUI is perfect for beginners, and the extra features aid the intermediate user, but Site-Aid is too limited and bulky to aid the hardcore or expert web designer in any real way that would aid them better than say Matrix Y2K,W3e,HTML-Kit or AceHTML.
